Minimizing quantitative losses of agricultural products after cultivation and storage period up to marketing level and increasing shelf life of products.

The scheme provides subsidy assistance for purchase of value addition machinery for agricultural produce like mini dal mill, millet mill, oil expeller, packing machine, groundnut dehusker, sheller, thresher, washing machines, grinder, polisher, cleaner cum grader etc.

This Department of Agricultural Engineering provides various services in coordination with the following institutions.

Apart from this, several hundreds of crores of rupees are spent annually by the central and state governments in the form of subsidies to farmers, providing technical know-how and supplying agricultural mechanization equipments from this department.

Graduates who have completed engineering in agriculture from a university recognized by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) work as Chief Engineers at the state level, as Superintending Engineers at the district level and as Assistant Engineers at the mandal level.

Experts say that if the Andhra Pradesh government pays attention to this department and observes the need of the department and can establish it in our state as it has been established in other states, it will not only provide high yield to the farmers of Andhra Pradesh but also double the income of the farmers. Agricultural Farmers Associations, Agricultural Engineering Students Associations raised this issue in 2015 and 2017 with the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the then Chief Minister Y.s. Jagan Mohan Reddy was requested many times but the governments did not take the right decision.

Even after thinking about this issue, the experts want to establish an agricultural engineering department in our state so that the services of graduates who have completed engineering in agriculture can be utilized and benefit the farmers.
